Screw piles arrived today and work commenced. It feels like we are building a house!
Why screw piles? Our block is beside the Bendigo creek (some may say "Gutter") and there is up to 3 metres of fill on the site

First screw pile goes in the ground.

Done - hope the rest go in just as easily!

A big relief the screw piles go in effortlessly.

Steve our piling man wanted confirmation that the piles were going through the fill and into solid clay/siltstone. A couple of 3.5 metre holes later assured him that everything was OK and that the piles were into solid ground. Unfortunately he found that the water table was only 1.9 metres below the surface.

We struck water at 1.9 meters.

No so good as we have to install a 32,000 liter concrete tank on Monday. It needs a hole almost 5 metres deep (should be fun).
